Making of the Gown

3rd April 2005.

I have managed to add draw up the pinkes/cuttes diagram on one of the calico pieces - see below. There is a 2 inch gap between each braid lines and the pinkes/cuttes are approximately 1/2inch wide.

The braid and the cuttes and pinks layout on the calico.

The Calico was placed on top of the bodice with Dressmakers Chalk Paper beneath the wool. I then used a dressmakers wheel to draw on the pattern. Of course, this has to be reversed for the second wool piece so I don't end up with two right hand sides!!!!!

This shows how the bodice will look! Good isn't it? Detail of the braid and the cuttes and pinkes.

The white underlayer that is peeking throughg the pinkes and cuttes, is ivory silk taffeta - a white fabric is underneath the red fabric on the gown. When I pinke/cutte the sleeves, the same white taffeta will been seen through the pinking and cuttes and also on the opposite side as it is also the lining to the sleeves.

I have managed to hand sew down all the braid on this piece and have transferred the pattern to its twin piece. Once this has been stitched, I will then be working out the best braid layout for the BACK piece!!!!
