Work so far:

23rd April, 2005.

I have at last tried on my corset. It does fit and is very comfortable. However, though I have a 1.5 to 2 inch gap at the waist at the back, the lacing is edge-to-edge at the top. I now have to remove a few bones on both sides (the side back rather than the back itself) so that there is a more even gap.

There are a few things to do on this corset before its completed:

1.

Silk Binding to be stitched on the Waist Tabs (pinned at present) and the neckline and straps.

2.

The Left Hand Side Back piece needs to have the neckline altered to complete the "V" shape.

3.

Straps need to be slightly lengthened before binding.

4.

All eyelets (front and back and for the straps) need to be worked with button hole stitch.

As I intend for this corset to be seen (sometimes) publicly at times in Kentwell when I "dress in the bedchamber", I decided to ensure that the laces were more authentic than two pairs of "Doc Marten" boot laces!!! I have just ordered two 2 metre lengths of hand made finger braid laces from Gina B of Soper Lane. I'm looking forward to them being delivered.

The next update should be of the completed corset!
